So, How Much Do You Charge?
It’s the question on every (serious) website owner’s mind – and it’s a good one.
So let me explain how I handle pricing, how the process works (it’s painless, I promise) and overall expectations:
I charge per project based on value, not time.
I don’t typically do an hourly rate or a “per word” rate for copywriting. A lot of writers will pad their hours or fluff up a piece so they get paid more and I don’t think that’s fair to you.
I write enough to sell the product or service and not a letter more. Considering that we now have shorter attention spans than goldfish, we want instant gratification, and we want it yesterday.
There are an abundance of tools for proper follow-up and relationship building, but the initial goal is to plant the seed in the prospect’s mind that their life simply isn’t complete without your product or service.
That’s my job, and I do it well.
Don’t panic when I ask about your budget
This is not so I can charge the highest rate possible. It’s so that I can determine the best tools, options and strategies to help you maximize your returns and get the results you want in less time than you think.
I want to make conversion rate optimization work with your budget, not eat it up with nothing to show for it. Oftentimes, my quote will be below your budget, which just means there’s more money left to funnel toward actionable strategies and campaigns that pay you back.
That’s a refreshing change from what most writers will tell you, isn’t it?
I want you to be delighted with the results
My quote typically includes one major overhaul (which is usually not needed) and several minor revisions. If the scope of the project changes or the revisions start to look like they’ll take more time, I will gladly give you an estimated cost for the extra time involved.
If you don’t want to move ahead with the work, that’s absolutely your choice and I’ll totally respect that.
I divide payments up into milestones so you pay as the project progresses
I do require a down payment (usually half down or one-third down depending on the scope of the project). This demonstrates that you’re committed to seeing the project through to completion and that you’re serious about hiring one of the best in the business to make it happen.
Most of the projects I work with typically run from $1,500-10,000. Now, don’t freak out if you have something smaller that needs doing. I’m not going to quote you $1,500 just because that’s on the lowest end of the quote scale.
Go ahead and tell me about your project. No matter what, I’ll give you a rate that’s accurate, fair, and most importantly, one where I deliver only my best. That’s a promise.
You’ll be getting the best of both worlds
I have considerable experience as a designer as well as a copywriter. I have worked with businesses of all sizes – from bootstrapped startups to well-known brands and every level in between.
My focus on conversion rate optimization means I can look at your site from both the content and design/UI perspective, to help ensure that your message resonates with your target audience and that they absolutely love you for it.
We’re going to get along famously. Here’s why:
- I work quickly, but thoroughly. Your work is done right and done on time.
- I listen attentively and ask lots of questions. I want to be certain I understand your project from every angle.
- I give you frequent status updates so you’ll know precisely what I’m working on at any given time.
- I’m available via phone, email, Skype and carrier pigeon in case you need to reach me.
- I have a proven process in place so you’ll know exactly what to expect when we work together.
See? I told you it was painless. Now, why not tell me a bit more about your business?
